The Maya have been around for many years and are located in Mesoamerica. They have thrived by making their remarkable inventions like there math system and their architecture. Although the Mayans had many life-changing and remarkable achievements some that we still use today, their most remarkable was their calendars because of its genius and also its significance. If there is one thing to say about the Mayan calendars it would say that they are a work of genius. As said in document D “They were masters of time measurement”. The quote shows that they were able to measure time and also make sense of it, which was very hard because as it says in Document C “The Maya used a positional system based on the number 20, rather than the number 10,..
.”. Not only were the Mayas able to tell time and date they were also able to tell when space events are going to be.
As stated in document D “Observations were built, at Chichen Itza and other cities, to use the studying of the movements of the sun and the moon.” It also states that “priest-astronomers collected information over many years in order to make their predictions and develop their systems.” That is why the Mayans calenders were genius. The Mayan calendars are not only a work of genius but also had great significance in their time and in our time. In Document D it says, “This calendar had eighteen months with twenty days each adding up to 360 days in all.
To this were added five unlucky days called Uayeb, to make a total of 365 days as in our calendar.” This shows that there were 365 days in their calendar in total, there is also 365 days in our calendar that is very significant. Also as it says in Document D “…
their knowledge was so great they could predict eclipses of the Moon.” This is an example of how significant that these calendars were for their people. And that is why the Mayan calendars were significant. The Mayan calendars were remarkable. Not only because of their genius but also because of its significance in the Mayas time and also in ours.
And that is why the Mayan calendars are Maya’s most remarkable achievement.
