Sleep is mandatory to ensure a healthy and safe lifestyle. Many people around the world aren’t getting the right amount of sleep. Sleep is a natural, periodic, and reoccuring state in which both your mind and body is in a temporary state of unconsciousness, while your muscles are inactive. (Thomas Lathrop Stedman) Although, most people have similar amounts of sleep the recommended amount for each age group is quite simple.  Newborn babies need 14-18 hours of sleep, children from ages 1-5 need 12-14 hours of sleep, children from ages 6 – 12 need 10-11 hours of sleep, teenagers up to age 17 need 8-10 hours of sleep and adults 18 and over need about 7-9 hours of sleep.

This lack of a necessity is causing an effect globally. Getting enough sleep is extremely important as it contributes to a healthy body, increases performance, and saves lives. Although, many people attempt to be healthy with outrageous  ideas from the internet, sleep may be the cheapest and most effective. A lack of sleep can increase your chances of contracting life-threatening diseases. Not getting enough sleep can cause you to be prone to catching diseases and it may take longer to recover (Mayo Clinic). A loss of sleep for a long period of time can lead to obesity and metabolic diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. A loss of sleep for a few days can lead your immune system to be vulnerable.
