My style of working is not that much different from anyone if you really think about it. Personally, I work on my own the best. What It is supposed to mean as a matter of fact is that, the need of having certain control over what I am doing and not being asked it to be done in some random way. I preferred to use the word random as while doing the tasks assigned to me, I do take care of company policies and other proven methods to complete it so to satisfy all requirements and guidelines to achieve best possible outcome. In short, I want the freedom to work and express my self as an individual(independent) contributor. I highly appreciate if given feedback on where to improve once the task is done. Also, I dislike seating idle so keep me busy all the time.
Being Adventures and Innovative:Personally, as I am adventurous, I will take risks. Being bold is sometimes seen as being rude, overconfident or self-centered which I am not for sure. Do come and talk to me if you feel so.
I would come up with innovative techniques (they might be disruptive too!) to perform a task. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t. So, if you are my leader stop me form zoning out or let me know as a team if I am pushing it to the extreme. I am likely to take initiative seeing the potential and I want people around me to do so.
I am not afraid of failing, would rather love to fail after giving all in rather then succeeding not working at par.How to approach me:As an Software Engineer, I agree that Software Development is remarkably collaborative in nature. You don’t just develop entire software alone.
You definitely need support and cooperation from the team in order to build a functional software. If you must come to me to get some help, be polite. If possible, try giving me a brief description on what needs to be done before hand so that I can do research. If you see me on my desk just drop by if resolution is quick. I don’t like being a blocker (you are waiting on me to get some work done) to anyone, so I will help you out as soon as possible. Other than that, if its not work related and you just want to talk, come talk to me anytime (Warning: I talk a lot). The best way to communicate with me would be when you are straight to the point and truthful. How do I organize work:People say that Agile methodology is just another term but I for sure believe in it.
I have worked and delivered many projects successfully by going Agile. I like how those sprints allow me to manage work and resources. Hence, I would work way better in Agile environment. I as a leader will always be an advocate of Agile and would expect my team to follow it.How do I take part in Decision making:Decision making is one of the key aspects of running any business. Most of the times these decisions are being made in the form of meetings.
I agree that meeting is the mean of getting the team together, making them aware of situation and conclude but I don’t feel productive enough if the meetings are more than an hour in length unless its brainstorming on totally new project. I am big time admirer of Stand-up meetings. They are rather short, allows to come up with quick solution and helps me being more productive.
Also, it is far more easier to take decision when presented with concrete evidence. Provide me with relevant facts, statistics and logic behind it and I would approve it as leader or would support the leader in pursuing it. My reaction to Conflicts:When you work, you are bound to have conflicts.
For me, if there is no conflict, something is going wrong for sure and people are not being honest. I love conflicts, they give me an opportunity to think over wide spectrum and often times provides with better solution. This obviously doesn’t mean that I would be an devil’s advocate or would tolerate someone else being one. As long as it is constructive I don’t mind it but not if it’s because of interest conflicts. I would say it’s better to have conflicting brains rather than hearts. What to expect from me as your leader:Now if I am your boss, I expect you to be true to your self. Never represent misleading data anywhere.
Be respectful to the team and work you are supposed to do. Admit the mistake and don’t shy away from it (never blame it on anyone that’s worst), rather own it and make sure not to repeat. If possible, help others learning it so they don’t go down the rabbit hole. Always be responsible and try to carry weight of the team but don’t be overwhelmed.
Don’t be afraid of failures, be innovative and have the courage to go after what you believe in. It’s my responsibility to provide my team with resources required and I will do my best. I would like to have honest feedback. Let’s work together and create a productive environment.
A note to you as a Follower:So, if you are leading me, I will appreciate if I am given a conducive atmosphere to work. Where I get opportunities to work on something challenging and learn from it. I need the autonomy when working as an Individual. You should rather function as a compass and let me be the rudder. I am very flexible and accommodating to needs of my team. I always work towards achieving organizational goal and even more. Doing that, I might get over excited and would like to be mentored in the case.
I expect to have nice work-life balance and hope you supporting that. I am honest and will let you know if I feel you are not doing something correctly (I don’t use flourish method but hope you understand it). Finally, I would say I reflect the same behaviour as I am imparted with. Let’s go for it as team.
Create a strong, dependable partnership and generate something that brings value for all.
