Contemporary Art is used to describe recently made artworks. Meaning to say, works made in the last 10 – 20 years. Contemporary artworks use a variety of materials and techniques but often use new technology such as the computer and software. (clear)

Art movement (Art Deco)

Art Deco History can be evidenced back to the early 20s, however the actual term, ‘Art Deco’, was first coined in 1968 in a book titled: Art Deco of the 20s and 30s by Bevis Hillier. (clear)

The atmosphere during the 20s was enthusiastic and the prospect seemed positive. World War I had ended and the economy was thriving throughout the world. The boisterous twenties shepherded in a spirit of playfulness, extravagance and a sense of sovereignty and optimism. (clear)

However, the Art Deco movement resumed to grow in the early 30s. Fellows of high classes still favoured the stuff of Art Deco artisans and craftsmen. A reduction of posh resources were being mixed with extravagant resources which contented the less well-to-do consumer – citizens were still able to buy luxury merchandise, though at a much more satisfactory price. By the mid 30s however, the globe had been severely damaged and trampled by the Depression and Art Deco was an lewd, sparkling reminder of a outlook that never came. It came to be linked with a lavishness and indulgence that had no position in the bleak realism of the period.
