    Take this into account, and know what the signs and symptoms are of some of the most common disabilities and issues. This will help you to recommend a course of action to parents. No, you can’t say, ‘Johnny looks like he has ADD because he is so disruptive,’ but you can let parents know that their child is showing lots of symptoms of a particular disability, and that these symptoms are greatly affecting his ability to get work done.

Dealing with Disruptions Effectively

Now that you are aware of some of the common reasons that classroom disruptions take place, you need to have a plan in place to address them. Here are some tips for better managing aberrant behavior:1. Mean what you say, and say what you mean. Don’t make idle threats.

Praise good behavior. This goes a long way toward extinguishing the negative behavior and reinforcing the good. Students, like all people, like to be told that they are doing something ‘right.’3. Don’t embarrass your students unnecessarily. If a child is really having trouble with managing his behavior, talk to him privately to find out what is going on.

Calling him out in class will only lead to more problems.4. Finally, find a fellow teacher who seems to have very few behavior problems in her class.

Ask her what her strategy is for managing disruptive behavior. Many veteran teachers have very few classroom disruptions, so find out what her methods are and emulate them.
