INTRODUCTION: Asbestos refers to six naturallysilicate minerals that ability to combat heat, fire and electricity. example is amosite, tremalite, anthophyllite, actinolite, chrysolite, crocidolite.asbestos fibers are microscopic in nature, very durable and opposition to fire.there are two types of asbestos: serpentine asbestos and amphibole asbestos. Pure asbestos is an powerful insulator, and it is also mixed into cloth, paper, cement, plastic and make to stronger. These type of asbestos isvery commercial sucessful for business.but it was stop in the 1970s.
this type of harmful mineral has actual clash on the country rearmost 30 years. this type of minerals isbanned in most of the countries except united state.asbestos wasmost common building material is used toboth insulator and flameproof in 1940s to the 1970s. but it was discovered tobe extremely hazardous to health when disturbed. Removing the asbestos yourself without proper appratusis very harmful to health effect.this ismesothelioma is a rare cancer but very fatal cancer.Asbestos in india: asbestos is widely usedin developing countries like india and developed countries like china and used ofasbestos in india mixed with cement and poured into molds for corrugated roofsheets wall pipes and making boats.
Asbestos use confined in the 1960s but the cheap construction material is widelyused . Around 80 percent material isused for roofing purposes in slums and temporary shelters. Asbestos waste isnot a biodegradable, and these type of fibres are get in the lungs.
begining the allergic symptoms iscoughing, sneezing and weight loss, but long time can cancer in the lungs and bronchi. India uses the asbestos yearly 350,000 tons. Russia and Brazil are largest exporter of thisproduct.1 Asbestos in china: China non-metallic minerals industryassociation established the continuing use of chrysotile many industry in China.JukkaTakala is director of the European Agency has evaluate yearly deaths from mesothelioma in china .this typeof cancer is directly effect to lungs and this cancer is originate is continusioly work in the industry. China produces the largest amount of asbestosin the world after Russia.
2 METHODOLOGY:1 Lung cancer: lung cancer is the causeof cancer death.ASBESTOS LUNG CANCER FACTS: aMaydevelop 15 to 35 years after asbestos exposure.bTwotypes of cells are small cell andnon-small cell.cPrognostic and treatment depend on the type andwhich stage of cancer.Symptoms of lungcancer:· Persistent coughing· Shortness of breath· Chest discomfort orpain· Hoarseness or wheezing· Coughing up blood· Chronic respiratoryinfections· Fatigue and loss ofappetite· Swelling of the faceor neck 3 2 Mesothelioma: mesothelioma tumors begin as tinynodules on the lining of the lungs or abdomen. The cancer doesn’t causesymptoms until the tumors have grown and spread, usually around cancer stageIII and IV, and they begin to press against the chest wall or abdominal cavity.
Most early mesothelioma diagnoseshappen by accident through routine X-rays or blood tests.mesotheliomasymptoms include:· Dry cough or wheezing· Shortness of breath(dyspnea)· Respiratorycomplications· Pain in the chest orabdomen· Fever or night sweats· Pleural effusion(fluid around the lungs)· Fatigue· Muscle weakness 4 3COPD(chronicobustructive pulmonary disease): COPD develops slowly, and symptoms such as cough, increasedmucus production, difficulty sleeping, shortness of breath, tightness in thechest as the illness progresses. COPDaffects the lungs elasticity which makesit difficult for a patient to exhale properly. Some symptoms ofCOPD include:· A cough that producesa lot of mucus· Tightness in the chest· Wheezing· Getting sick oftenwith colds or the flu· Swelling in ankles, feet or legs (edema)· Weight loss· Difficulty breathingor shortness of breath during physical activity· Lower muscle enduranc 5 4PLEURAL PLAQUE: Pleural plaques are akin to scars on the lungs, caused bycollagen deposits to the thin membrane covers the lungs known as pleura. These plaques result is asbestos exposure. approximately 50 percent who regularly exposed to asbestos develop pleuralplaques. 6 5BENEFITS: a Asbestos is a very good thermal insulator and increasesthe energy efficiency of the building.
b It is highly resistant to fire and does not burn easily.c It forms a very strong material when mixed with cementand used as an additive to form a composite material called asbestos cement.d It is a very inexpensive and a very cost effective material, hence widely used.e It is extensively used as a protective roofing materialin corrugated form.f It is highly durable and weather proof.g It is resistant to damage from termites.h Asbestos is very easy to clean and maintain butdifficult to repair.
7 During my research projects the topic I focused are on lungcancer, mesothelioma, copd which are caused by ASBESTOS and also I have writtendown benefits of ASBESTOS.And finally below I am concluding my research work byincluding summary of my work that I did during whole semester.SUMMARY:As I mentioned in above introduction that how ASBESTOS aremade using six naturally silicate minerals. which are dangerous and cause havocto human population. As I mentioned above the ill effects of ASBESTOS so toprevent from such drastic disease we should wear gas mask and other necessaryeuipment so to get prevention from such type of disease.
This disease generallyaffect factory workers so to them wearing gas masks and eqipments aremandatory.REFERENCE:1. http://www.asbestosfreeindia.
