Intelligence: Is it Inherited? The great scientist Albert Einstein once said, “The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination. ” One thing that many people pride themselves with possessing is intelligence. What really is intelligence? And where can it come from? Scientists are proving intelligence is not inherited, but it is affected by everything around someone. Not Just ones environment, although that is a big contributor, but things such as heritage and the overall want to be intelligent.
Intelligence is not an inherit trait, there are many factors that contribute to intelligence. One’s environment influences someone’s intelligence greatly. When one thinks about it, it makes a lot of sense. Take the scientist Gregory Mendel.
He was born in a rural area to a poor family (“Mendel”). People probably did not think he would amount to anything. But they were very wrong. Only when a man came to their home and recommended them to move and to let Mendel attend a better school, was he educated to the degree at which we currently know. Another example is Leonardo dad Vinci. He was an illegitimate child of a poor woman and a well off man.The mother Hough it was in the best interest of the child that he should live with his father (“dad Vinci”). He was then educated and apprenticed as an artist, though he also made many advances in science and engineering.
A main reason environment is a big factor in intelligence is certain areas will not have the same resources available as another. This is a very bad thing in poor areas as far as the education of a child. The environment actually changes the brain based on specific adaptations (Request). The way someone’s environment affects them can also change one’s intelligence. Personal experience affects one’s intelligence.Intelligence is not a concrete thing as to where it comes from. Things that happen in someone’s life can contribute to their capacity for intelligence.
Doll Hitler, for example, moved to Vienna, which he stated that it was the most socially backward city, and while he was there he became homeless which set back his ability to add to his intelligence greatly. This experience definitely changed his view of many things, including the government (Hitler). Neuroscience is proving the brain is changed by experience therefore someone loud have to be able to adapt to one’s surroundings (“Is Intelligence”).Experience can also make someone learn to be intelligent.
Intelligence is also a learned trait. Human will is a very strong thing. The human brain does an excellent Job of adapting to the way its user needs it to be. Since intelligence is not directly inherited from a person’s parent’s, it only makes sense that it can be learned (“What Defines”). Looking at adoption studies, the child will strive for the same intelligence as their adopted parent’s and that intelligence will be different than their biological parent’s (Brown). This is definitely a sign that intelligence is not inherited. In addition, formal education is not the only way to become intelligent. If someone really wishes to be educated, then they will find a way (Request).
Education also does not mean someone is truly intelligent. As mentioned in Mien Kampala, “l know people who ‘read’ enormously… Yet whom I would not describe as Well-read. ‘ True they material they have taken in” (Hitler).
What he was trying to say was only certain people can educate themselves and really be good at it. Many will never possess such an art though they may try. Various people are saying I. Q. Is inherited from someone’s parent’s. While this may seem true, I.
Q. Is not a valid test of intelligence. The I. Q. Test will analyze the way someone’s mind will process different patterns in a small amount of time. Many people may not be good at seeing various patterns in use, so why is that the test? Also, people will say intelligence is inherited because in intelligent people, their brains will work faster (“More”). That is affected by genes, but that does not mean someone will one hundred percent be intelligent. It is almost impossible to find out what is the major cause of the variations in intelligence because there are many factors that contribute to someone’s intelligence.
