There are many worldwide conflicts that occurred throughout history that made a negative impact on the world, but there’s one of these conflicts that stood out from the rest, and still remains present in today’s society. This conflict is called a genocide; the deliberate and systematic extermination of a nation, racial, political or cultural group ( United States ). According to the united sates holocaust memorial museum the term genocide didn’t really come about until 1944.
A Jewish- Polish lawyer coined the name genocide in 1944. He did so surfing the reign of Nazis to describe the constant murder. He formed this word from the Greek word “Geno”, race, and the Latin word “Cide”, killing, this soon formed a word in everyone’s mind that represented a series of terminal images. Therefore, I believe Raphael Lemkin created a word that best suited the horrific events that were occurring, His determination in naming this unknown terror that was claiming millions of lives, allotted for an understanding of the gravity of the situation. Now we] can grasp this term in new context in a large region of Sudan called Darfur . Although Darfur has a history of violence and suffering, this genocide is the main cause of death and war that is destroying Darfur . An estimated 300,000 people have died in fighting the genocide or from disease, hunger, and these causes are related to the genocide. As well some 2.7 million people have been made refugees. ( Darfur . The Columbia Encyclopedia) many inhabitants from Darfur have suffered because of genocide, which ultimately is caused from fighting and from being homeless without food and shelter.

After their personal visit the United Nations world organizations issued figures saying that 6,00 to 10,000 people are dying per month. statistically the numbers are horrifying to see even because at this rate in a matter of years Darfur will cease to exist.World leaders such as UN Secretary -General Ban Ki-Mon, are trying to improve the terrifying humanitarian situation in Darfur and Eastern Chad”(…Peace). The U.S and U.N are stepping in like they did in world war II, they are going to stop genocide before it escalates more than it already has already.” The Only true basis of enduring peace is the willing cooperation of free people in a world in which, relieved of the menace of aggression, all may enjoy economic and social security”( Libal, Autumn). Hopefully as time goes on Genocide in Darfur can completely Come to a Stop before Darfur Cease to Exist.
