Prince Ferdinand, the heir to the throne of Naples, comes from a royal family and is humble, kind, and an overall nice guy.

Character Analysis

Prince Ferdinand is the son of Alonso, the King of Naples, and heir to the throne. When the tempest, a violent and windy storm attacks the ship he is on with his father and several other men, Ferdinand immediately jumps overboard. He is separated from his father on a deserted island and led to believe his father died after the shipwreck.

Instead of mourning the loss of his father, Ferdinand immediately falls in love with a young girl named Miranda.

Ferdinand is a humble, kind, and naive guy who spends most of his time during The Tempest trying to win the affection of Miranda. He naively professes his love for Miranda when he hardly knows her.

He is kind to Prospero and Miranda and displays a kind demeanor in all of his interactions with others. He vows to do whatever it takes to make her his wife and win the affection of her father Prospero. Ferdinand has no idea that Miranda’s father Prospero has arranged for him to meet and fall in love with his daughter through magic.

He naively trusts Prospero and agrees to become servant to Prospero in order to ‘win’ his approval to marry Miranda. With the marriage of Ferdinand and Miranda, the strife and contention between their fathers Prospero and Alonso ends.
