People were time sharing computers and using main servers while all being connected in one building or by phone lines.
People are slowly moving away from purchasing all of the software and hardware they need and connecting to the cloud where all of their computing needs are met by someone else for a fee. Although the new model of Internet computing has neither hub nor spokes, it till has a core and a fringe.The aim is to concentrate computation and storage in the core, where high-performance machines are linked by high- bandwidth connections, and all of these resources are carefully managed. At the fringe are the end users making the requests that initiate computations and who receive the results. (Hayes, 2008) Furthermore, cloud computing also allows computers to be updated more efficiently than ever before.
Cloud computing refers to both the applications delivered as services over the Internet and the hardware and systems software in the data centers that roved those services. Armrest et al. , 2010) If you have ever used Gamma or Hotmail you have been using the cloud. All of these e-mail services use a virtual server that allows the user to have access to the e-mail anywhere and anytime they can get internet access. This gives the user of these services unlimited ability to stay in contact with friends, family and coworkers. Cloud computing allows service providers to share their computing resources with many subscribers, improving utilization rates and reducing costs.Some experts predict that as much as ninety percent of he world’s computing and data storage will be done via the cloud in five to 10 years.

Companies that wanted to us our trucks to move their containers would enter in their information into our system and then it would get fed to the proper terminal. We were a national company and anyone could see the information so we were able to pool our resources to make sure we were giving the customer the most cost effective way to move their container.As a company we would have a daily operations call With all of the terminals in the southeast and we would coordinate our moves so that the trucks would have odds going in both direction.
We would have an idea of what was going on because we all were looking at the same information at the same time. This is one of the better uses of cloud computing because multiple people can see and add to a product at the same time and the end user does not need to bring a bunch of edited document together and spend time sorting out all of the ideas into one document or program.This example is a good diagram of how cloud computing works.
There are multiple terminals that are all connected together over the internet to one main server that has all of the information and data stored in one central location for all of the users. If you have been connected to a server remotely then you have seen how these connections allow the Information Technology teams update all the computers at one time. This one feature makes the cloud a better place to work.
When I was in the Army we would have one or two soldiers per unit that had to be trained in Information Technology security and how to update computers. We as the user would have to make time for these soldiers to come to our office at least two times a month to physically run update orgasm on our computers. The update disk were considered secret and had to be stored in the company safe and then returned once all the updates were complete. Now with cloud computing this is done from one central location when most of the users are away from their computer.The end user is usually unaware that an update had been done unless their computer had to be restarted for the update to take place.
In my military career I saw the growth of cloud computing in my job as an air traffic controller. I was placed on a team of army controller to travel to Maine for a training exercise where e had to test some new equipment that the military was looking at to help run airspace over the battlefield. This ended up getting squashed because the system was thought up by engineers who work in an office and had never deployed anywhere or had controlled air traffic.The system was fine as a stand-alone product but was sold as a system that would allow of the different controlling agency to talk to each other and see the traffic that was in the airspace. All of these terminals were in a field the size of a football field and needed to be hard wired together for the different agencies to communicate. Even in this small controlled area we were unable to get a stable picture of the airspace that would allow us to controller and separate the aircraft that would be over the battlefield.Fifteen years later I deployed to Iraq and we used cloud computing to control the airspace over all of Iraq using our own military servers.
At any time we could get a picture of what aircraft were flying in our airspace. This allowed us to give the powers to be the information they needed to make battle decision in real-time and on the fly. My wife is a high school science teacher and she see a time in the future hen there will not be any schools and students will all be connected through the cloud.

Cloud computing is going to bring the people of the world closer together as we all add to our own personal computing devises and find the need to communicate twenty four hours a day seven a week. We all want all of our information at our fingertips and hat is what cloud computing gives us.
