The Causes of Stress Stress is a condition that everyone encounters at one time or another in their life. It is unavoidable and IS responsible for many negative effects on the physical and emotional health of a person. This definition is an accurate way to describe how many Americans feel when it comes to stress. However, small quantities of stress can have a positive affect to motivate and encourage people to be more productive.

Still everyone can agree that a great deal of stress can be very destructive to a person’s life. According to many physicians, stress can cause people to have many physical, behavioral, cognitive, and emotional symptoms (Stress Symptoms, Signs, and Causes). Yet people wonder why stress occurs? In today’s society the main causes of stress are produced from work, financial issues, and academic pressures. It is important to have the knowledge of common stresses so that people can devise a plan to overcome them. The workplace is a very common place to encounter stress because it is where people spend most of their day.

In addition, this type of stress causes many people to become overwhelmed and create anxiety (Stress Symptoms, Signs, and Causes). To most people their job is their life work considering they got educated or certified to do it. However, many obstacles in the workplace such as: difficult coworkers, deadlines, and strict management can generate stress to anyone. Working with other people always causes stress for the reason that people do not always see eye to eye. Also, it does not matter where you work there is always some sort of deadline that needs to be met.

That is why time is very valuable n the workforce because it is what many people rely on the most; however, when that is tampered with it causes stress (Northern). In addition, if employees have a difficult time meeting deadlines it causes management to become angry and potentially the employee may be laid off. This type of stress can cause employees to become very irritable and cause severe mood swings (Stress Symptoms, Signs, and Causes). Furthermore, it is important that people choose a job that is suited best for them and their lifestyle. Another issue which can create stress is finances.

Financial issues is a major source that can cause stress because money is the foundation to how people live their daily lives. In today’s society, adults have a lot on their plate when it comes to finances and trying to make ends meet. Adults have many bills, activities, and even children to feed but those things are not the only thing on the list. “Financial stress can be defined as an inability to meet one’s economic responsibilities” (Northern). Therefore, it is common for financial issues to produce turmoil between the loved ones around them and potentially disrupt a good home.

This type of stress can be linked to debt, payments, and lack of money to spend on materialistic things; therefore, people become unhappy with themselves and try to find the easy way out. Stress like this can formulate symptoms such as: constant worrying or racing thoughts (Stress Symptoms, Signs, and Causes) Furthermore, it is important to use money management to decrease the potential of financial tress in the future. Sing good money management will also organize your way of spending and help establish a way to budget responsibly (2014 Research: Financial Stress). Lastly, academic pressure can be a major cause of stress. College is something many people look forward to when they graduate high school because it is a big transitional time in their lives where they can explore their freedom and curiosity. However, academic stress has become a big phenomenon to many scholars to research in last decade (Causes of Academic Stress).

In that time there have been more students seceding to go to college than ever before. College is very expensive and for many students they have the benefit of their parents help; however, that is not the case for numerous students around the country. It has been documented that students who have worried about finances for college range in the 40 percent margin (Northern). In addition, relationships are being established as soon as you begin college that can become unhealthy from sources like drugs or parties (Causes of Academic Stress).

These relationships can determine whether or not you stay focused or get put on academic arbitration. It is important to realize that grades are what keep you enrolled in the college. Therefore, it is one of the top stresses students will deal with and that can lead to: the use of alcohol/drugs, depression, or bad sleeping habits (Causes of Academic Stress). When students have these kind of stresses it can hinder their ability to achieve their academic goals and potentially diminish their plans for the future. It is obvious that too much stress is never good for anyone and impacts people negatively.

A few of the effects that many people experience from tress are: high blood pressure, weight changes, and depression (Stress Symptoms, Signs, and Causes). People can decrease the amount of stress they have by improving communication with others, learning how to manage time wisely, taking advantage of resources, and participating in decision making. This short list of examples are just the few to many steps that people can take towards minimizing stress in their lives. Therefore, if people can identify the triggers of stress like financial, work, and academic pressures it will be easier for them to find a solution.
