Abstract The portfolio assignment report unveils me along several career dimensions by analyzing and improving my personality skills according to diplomatic knowledge of my aim and goals. The achieving a task to be a floor manager in the well established broadcasting organization as passionate for years is not simple job but still can be set focused towards goal. The analysis and interpretation of the personality skill can be executed by identifying leadership roles, personality type and SWOT analysis. This case of scenario actually needs some of the factors to be identified like leadership qualities, managerial skills, relevant personality skills. These learning outcomes will simply help understand the directions to be focused and how essential steps may be taken to overwhelm the personal blind spots and factors involved in the case of the execution.
The second part of this self assessment task help improves the development of field knowledge and handling task capacities, by conducting interviews of two different work practitioners and analyzing scenario lies associating our researches and personal goals of development. The final part of this self assessment research leads research analysis and a performance on the work environment based on the personality characters and feedback study. Role of Television Floor Manager Person who is the head of the production floor is known as “Television Floor Manager”& the most important area of production in the studio setting is the Floor (stage) where all the activities & actions are located. In the settings of outdoor broadcasting, Floor becomes an impermanent area of production on which the actions & talents are presented by the presenters. MacKay, H and Ivey, D. (2004). Floor manager acts as a link to connect the director & people on the floor such as presenters, talent, other staff and the audience.An earpiece and microphone is used by the floor manager to get in touch with staff in the control room continuously.
The floor manager gives instructions, cues & information where necessary to the presenters. And resend the information to the director. Floor managers are also performing in outside broadcasts activities, as an example television program perform in sports events coverage. Such as live football matches.
The floor manager would be positioned on the touchline and provide information to the commentators and gallery. 2. 3.Required Skills Post of floor manager requires a high degree of skills, competence, self-confidence & maturity since it is a top level post in the job hierarchy. It is very much vital for a floor manager to have a comprehensive knowledge on the studio settings such as sound, camera, audio, recording, lighting, etc & positions of the staff on the setting. The floor manager should provide the consultation regarding the logistic activities & other aspect of operation of the business.S/he should make sure that other settings like furniture & fittings, props & staging are in order before beginning of the show in addition to checking of electrical equipment in the studio & on the stage.
Briefing has to be done to the talent & presenters on the setting by the floor manager & s/he should keep proper interaction with the audience. Floor manager should get the feedback from the audience by taking their cheerfulness, laughter & clap. 2. During a Show Communication of information between the control room of the TV station & floor staff & giving hints to the talents & presenters are the main duties of the floor managers. Other special thing is directors should be kept informed regarding the activities happening behind the camera. Further s/he should get the presenters, talents, viewers & props prepared for the next chapter of the play. No matter what the nature (calm or noisy) of the audience is the floor manager has to have the total control over the audience.
. 5. 3. Outside Broadcast Duties Manager in charge of the floor is responsible for the broadcasts outside the station. Sport event is the best example for that. Floor manager is supposed to give details of the sport event to its commentators where necessary. But for the other events like talent shows (outside events), floor manager provide his/her contribution in organizing the event & talents.
In the Outside broadcasts also requires floor manager to ensure the readiness of presenters, equipments & the location.As in the inside broadcast floor manager should have a proper communication with control room, directors & staff in the station. 2. 5. Floor Manager Job Description Floor manager is supposed to conduct a pre check of all equipments; safety tips, stage, and readiness of presenters before start up the show and to maintain sound communication with related parties. For the smooth function of the broadcast floor manager maintains a good coordination & communication between the director & the control room. Further s/he is accountable for giving cues to talents and visitors to make sure the show s running in line with the timing. Broadcasts vary as inside & outside based on the nature of the production.

Simply this is a direct consequence of cutting the budgetary programs nearly by 10 % to 20 %. This was done to respond the world recession and for cost savings.
Generally the Freelancers believe that they have to bear all these difficulties posed by the broadcaster budgetary cuttings, getting paid less and working long hours, while on the other hand the staffs do not experience any of these. Career background historyAccording to Mr. KWAME LESTRADE, (Floor Manager/ Film Maker/Photographer) he has entered in to the industry as a photographer, When analyzing his statement he still involves in his first profession, and he said that the experience he gathered as a photographer helped lot to become an effective and successful floor manager.
He is been working for long time in the industry, around 10 years. So it would be a not an easy task to become effective floor manager in short period of time.To become effective and talented floor managers, I should have proper education background and need to gather more and more experience in the industry in all the areas as well. When analyzing the role and responsibilities, they both are dealing with almost same activities. Mr. Kwame said that; “I employ a crew of additional camera operators and actors and free lancers hair & make up etc. I work as an editor as well.When you start off in a film production company you have to do everything, but now I can employ a crew to do the different roles so that I don’t wanna do” He is participating some training to horn the knowledge and skills which required performing the duties in effective manner.
Even not regular trainings take place this industry, time to time he will participate to some training. HRM skill and finance management skills as well. If you wanna go and get a job with the production company then you need to go and study media from a production, if you are the person whose gonna be working in the industry not the job working for yourself then it’s probably more important that you have got that type of attitude, than the qualification so I guess qualification really helps you to get in a job but experience and sort of a good attitude help you ahead as a free lancer and learn as you go.ME: What are the main skills which required becoming an effective production manager? Increasingly delegation, all of the other things that can be involved the admin, the business developments, talking to the people, chasing invoices all of that you have to do but there are many soft moves when you give them to other people so you can get on with doing what you were supposed to be doing. So yeah delegate. ME: When comparing Qualifications and substantial experience in TV or film industry, what is the most important factor of it in this industry? Right the whole qualification versus experience argument how do you get experience without qualification, how do you get qualification without experience?INTERVIEWEE: He pauses [ahmmm] Again it depends on who you are because there were people without experience they make it and people with qualifications they don’t make it. So it’s much more depends on your attitude than on what you have. So it’s about you.
So its different for different people. ME: How many training sessions you are participating for a year? INTERVIEWEE: Not very long you know may be a couple of days, I was already been a photographer so long and I was able to do the same as the guided as longer. If I hadn’t had the experience as the photographer I would need it a lot longer.So in years doing up some learning I did a course, I did a short course on how to use a dark room little bit on Photoshop; really largely self taught.
ME: What are main challenges you have faced while working as production/floor manager? INTERVIEWEE: The main challenges are I think its prioritisation because you have to Pauses as a freelancer again I wasn’t working for a company I was the company. So the challenges I faced was winning the work and then delivering the work and when you deliver the work for your clients it’s easy to forget to keep trying to win your new work.So it makes things difficult.
