B1One piece of legislationthat informs practice which relates to care is Health and Safety at Work Act1974 is keeping children safe within the setting. It is important to keep themsafe because it is our responsibility to safeguard children and make sure theystay safe at all times. To safeguard children it is important to always followthe policies and procedures of the setting. To keep children safe it is alsoimportant to teach them how to stay safe from anything that would put them indanger. When it comes to safety children have the right to be safe because theyrely on us and we need to make a lot of decisions that will keep them safe.

The legislation means my setting has tohave certain safety policies and procedures. There has to be a writtenstatement in the policies about how the setting keeps everyone safe. The Healthand Safety at Work Act requires the setting to do risk assessments on things suchas security, fire safety, food, hygiene and outings. Outingsmust be planned and checked beforehand for suitability, access and safety.

Children needthe correct support to be able to be safe, for example when playing on morerisky toys such as the climbing frame or the slide.

It is important to includeall children in activities but also to keep them safe and feeling a sense ofbeing valued and welcomed.Somechildren’s development may be at risk, for example: – children who are disabledand those with special educational needs; – those from socially excludedfamilies, such as the homeless or those who live with a parent who is disabledor has a mental illness; – children from traveller communities, refugees orasylum seekers and those from diverse linguistic backgrounds.

One of the ways to implementinclusive practice is to plan carefully to make sure all children are involvedin an activity such as sports even if it includes physical movement if there isa child with a special need or a disability.”Children with disabilities do not alwayshave the freedom of choice compared to their more able peers, yet have the sameneed for opportunities to take risks.”(Safe learning environments pre-school learning alliance2003-2017) Thepractitioners must observe, assess and manage the level of risk so that allchildren have the opportunity to be included and to develop their abilitieswithout the risk of harm. Another way to implement inclusive practice is to workwith parents especially if they are coming from a different background. It isvery important to ask them if they need any support themselves or any supportfor the child`s development such as extra English lessons or any support withgetting used to the new language and setting. Most children may need extraequipment when playing so we make sure they are included in any playingactivities and that they join in. For example in my setting we have got loadsof children coming from different backgrounds and I sometimes  do get told not to let the child go outsidethe following day because it is too cold or icy but I always explain the parentthe importance of the children playing outdoors and that they are going to staysafe because all members of staff are qualified and the children will getsupervised at all times especially when going onto the climbing frames or theslide, but if it is slippery the children don`t have any access to the slide orthe climbing frame.

It is important that if there is anything unusual going onwith a girl coming from a different background such as most of the countrieswithin Africa which are practicing the Female Genital Mutilation so if there isany girl coming from any countries in Africa they may act different or tellthat they will be going home for a long period of time. It is important that ifyou think that the child will be taken away to get the practice done to reportit to someone prom child protection or discuss it with the parents. As apractitioner it is important not to take the risk of ignoring all the signs orignore what you get told.
